My client sought something extraordinary — a homesite perched on the edge, where you feel as if you’re floating in the sky, surrounded by endless mountain views and complete privacy. The challenge was to find land that offered that dramatic perch while maintaining seclusion and the capacity for a very large home.
At the time, I was working with The Cliffs Communities, known for their seven world-class golf communities along the Blue Ridge’s dramatic “Blue Wall.” That experience led me to a rare four-acre cliff-edge site at roughly 2,500 feet of elevation overlooking Travelers Rest. On certain mornings, the clouds roll beneath the ridge, creating a surreal sense of floating above the world.
I introduced the client to Stephen Fuller, whose architectural artistry captured the essence of living among the clouds. The resulting 14,000-square-foot estate—with a basketball court, bowling alley, and panoramic glass walls—remains one of the largest private residences ever built within The Cliffs Communities.
